Goblin Market

She is referring to the fruit sellers as goblins as they are desperately wanting their products to be bought. They try to lure people in. They take shape in any form and apperance. The fruit from which they ate paralyzed Laura from her hearing. She could not stand the calls that were still being made to get them to but the fruit from the sellers. I think this is a reference to Adam and Eve when the serpent was in the Garden of Eden and tempted Adam to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree which God said not to do. They became sinful and that is why Laura cannot hear the crys anymore.
